Our Inspiration and Unique Approach
The motivation to establish an association in Barrie stems from the enriching experience gained from the Jamaican Association in North York, Ontario. This community has been a consistent source of support, inspiration, and knowledge. The joy of attending their New Year's Dinner and the unforgettable family and friends' picnic truly left an impact. Their informative website further exemplifies the power of a strong community.
We believe that creating a similar association in Barrie will significantly uplift our community. Our unique approach involves providing business mentorship for our local youth, empowering them to gain the skills and knowledge needed to take on leadership roles within the association in the future. This commitment to nurturing young leaders sets us apart and ensures a sustainable future for our community initiatives.

Our Mission and Community Goals
The Barrie, Ontario Caribbean Association Afro-Canadian Association is a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating Caribbean heritage while strengthening cultural, educational, social, and economic opportunities throughout Barrie and Simcoe County.

The association will provide cultural events, youth mentorship, newcomer settlement support, senior programs, entrepreneurship training, and community advocacy while promoting diversity, inclusion, and unity.
Motto: "One People. One Culture. One Community."

Our Passionate Leadership
The key individuals driving the Barrie Ontario Caribbean & Afro-Canadian Association are deeply committed to its success. With a strong French Jamaican heritage, our founder and their family have a profound appreciation for cultural background. Active participation in and enjoyment of numerous Black cultural events in Toronto have fueled a passion for preserving and promoting Caribbean culture.
Through these experiences, the team has encountered various instances of subtle racism, often called micro-aggressions, which only strengthens their resolve to be agents of change in the community. This strong cultural passion and lived experience motivate the team to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all members of the Simcoe County community.
"The Barrie, Ontario Caribbean Association Afro-Canadian Association envisions becoming the leading Caribbean organization in Central Ontario."
